PRESS RELEASE – Nick Filipetto wins on Formula 3 debut

The AGI Sport F3 Team kicked off its 2015 racing at Wakefield Park April 10-12. The Goulburn circuit played host to first round of the NSW Formula 3 State Championship.

New team driver Nick Filipetto made his debut behind the wheel of the F304 Dallara previously campaigned by Nathan Gotch. It was Nick’s first race meeting in an ‘Open Wheeler’ after two years in the ‘one-make’ Hyundai Excel Championship.

Qualifying:

Nick showed immediate aptitude for ‘wing and slicks’ racing, over the two Qualifying sessions on Saturday morning he set the fastest time in both sessions to secure pole position for Race 1.

Race 1:

Filipetto lead into turn one of the first lap and was never headed over the 8 lap race, winning by a 5 second margin over the F301 Dallara of Aaron McClintock.

Race 2:

It was cracking Sunday morning race at Goulburn’s Wakefield Park.

Aaron McClintock jumped pole winner Nick Filipetto at the start to lead the field for the first lap. Filipetto set about chasing down McClintock for the lead but had a high-speed spin while following the leader into turn 3. A quick recovery meant Nick would chase down McClintock and take the lead by the halfway point of the race with a pass out of turn 8.

Lapped traffic spiced up the action with Nick getting balked out of turn 9 and McClintock retaking the lead on the second last lap.

On the final lap Filipetto pulled off a brave move around the outside at turn 3 to re-take the lead and the victory

Race 3:

Filipetto lead the pack into turn one and started to pull a healthy gap from the first lap. A slight mistake on the run up to turn 3 early in the race meant a high-speed spin from the AGI Sport driver and a trip onto the outfield. Nick made a strong recovery from last position to take it back up to 5th by the chequered flag.

Race 4:

In another exciting race that showcased the bold racecraft he gained in the Excel Championship Nick made a decent getaway from 5th on the grid in the trophy race to be 3rd by the second lap. Within another 5 laps Filipetto had overtaken the fast-starting Greg Muddle.

A superb move up the inside of rival Aaron McClintock at turn 10 on the penultimate lap ensured Filipetto took the lead and the race win. It was a great way to finish off a very successful debut weekend for the new driver.

PRESS RELEASE – NSW State Championship Win

Media Release: 011 Issued: November 5, 2012
Snake Racing/AGI SPORT win NSW State Formula Championship

Snake Racing/AGI Sport have had another successful weekend winning three from three races in the final round of the NSW State Formula Championship at Wakefield Park, Goulburn. The team have also achieved their goal of winning the state series in their first year in Formula 3.

Driver Nathan Gotch also re-‐set his own Formula Race Car series lap record for Wakefield Park with a time of 57.35 seconds during Race 3.

Nathan said “It feels really good, one of our main goals was to win the championship before we step up to the national series and it was really good to have the championship locked away after Race 1 on Saturday”.

Team Manger, Adam Gotch said, “The team has had a great year, Nathan has won 11 out of 15 races, pole position at every round and won the NSW State title so we couldn’t be happier. The plan next year is to move up to the national series, hopefully with a couple of cars, so we are looking forward to 2013.”

The team did have a shot at two of the national rounds in 2012 and Nathan scored a maiden class win at the Shannons Nationals at Sydney Motorsport Park on July 15.

Nathan is looking forward to stepping up to the national championship next season. “It will be good to travel the country and compete against the professional drivers. This year has gone well and with a bit more testing I think we have a good chance at the ‘National class’ title for the ‘04 model cars within the AUS F3 Championship in 2013.”

The team achieved all their goals for their inaugural season and more with an outright lap record on the North Circuit layout at Sydney Motorsport Park in a time of 58.89 seconds during round four of the NSW State series on 23rd September.
Snake Racing /AGI SPORT Formula 3 team was also funded entirely by sponsorship during the season with a mix of ‘in kind’ and cash deals.

Team Manager Adam Gotch thanks the sponsors, “We have had some great support on board this year from a number of ‘value-‐in-‐kind’ sponsors with the likes of Valour Apparel, Exclusive Customs, Social Tap, Baileigh, PPG & Oxley Graphics all supporting us in 2012. It’s allowed us to successfully compete in a state championship, win that championship and move on next year to the national series.”
Nathan agrees, “We do want to thank the sponsors, we can’t do it without them, Snake Racing helped us out a lot, coming to the party with funding, Aquafire Protection is a great sponsor of ours and Truline Plumbing. These guys put their hands in their pockets to get us to the track and hopefully they are all happy with the results.”

The team are currently in talks with drivers to field a multi-‐car team in the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship in 2013. Once again, we hope to bring you plenty of action from the track and look forward to being a team to watch in the future.
