PRESS RELEASE – AGI Sport expands into Toyota 86 Series
AGI Sport is expanding into tin tops with an entry into the inaugural Toyota 86 series which gets underway at Winton Raceway later this month. Having driven Formula 4 for AGI Sport in the past, Nick Filipetto this week revealed a sleek, track machine decked out in the AGI Sport colours.
The Toyota 86 Racing Series is aimed at giving young, up-and-coming amateur drivers an entry platform into a fledgling national championship where they can also challenge themselves against professional drivers. A number of big name drivers are confirmed in the field with Glenn Seeton, Leanne Tander and Steven Johnson expected to bring some extra attention to the series.
Following his 2015 success in Formula 3 having won the NSW State Formula 3 Championship, Nick has been working hard on getting his entry together.
“It’s been a full time job putting the build together, I’ve built the car from the ground up. We’ve had the control items to source and install. I had a full weld-in cage installed by AGI Roll Cages and Sydney Composites did a fantastic job on the paint scheme, it almost looks too good to take out on the track,” Nick said.
“I’m really looking forward to getting on track though. The atmosphere and exposure of running with the V8 Supercars is going to be electric. I’m really looking forward to getting amongst it with the professional drivers and getting hands-on experience at that level.”
Nick has also managed to get some sponsorship for his entry.
“I’ve been lucky enough to get some backing to help defray some of the costs of this year so I’d like to thank my main sponsor MBC Civil for coming to the party,” Nick said.
Adonis Moujali, CEO of civil engineering company MBC Civil, was happy to put some money behind the young driver.
“We are proud to be associated with Nick Filipetto. His determination and passion reflect our own business principles and we will be there to support him all the way,” Adonis said.
New Image Kitchens and Sydney Composites also feature on the car along with AGI Roll Cages.
“I’m stoked that Paul Smith from New Image, Greg Kerba from Sydney Composites and Adam Gotch from AGI all saw fit to help me out. I’m really hoping to finish up the pointy end of the championship and do them proud.”
“I’ve been working towards this first race for the last twelve months, almost full time on the car build for the last three months and I can’t wait to get on track. I’m throwing 110 per cent of everything I’ve got at this season, there is no safety net so I actually can’t wait to get out there next weekend and then to see what unfolds during the season.” Nick said.
The five-round series is fully sanctioned by the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) and comprises of a first round at Winton Raceway on May 20-22 as well as rounds at Sydney Motorsport Park (August 26-28), Sandown Raceway (September 16-18), Mount Panorama (October 6-9), and Sydney Olympic Park (December 2-4).
