RACE REPORT – Excel Championship Round 4 at Sydney Motorsport Park

RACE REPORT – Excel Championship Round 4 at Sydney Motorsport Park

The fourth round of the NSW Excel Championship was a one day affair on Saturday 10th August at Sydney Motorsport Park in Sydney. It was the first time the Excel’s had raced at SMP and the cars were particularly suited to the south circuit.

It was a great showing for AGI SPORT who welcomed new team driver Nick Filipetto in the Number 77 car, we expect Nick’s father Dave to join us for the next round in the championship, nice to see the grid expanding each and every round.

Lead driver Nathan Gotch (AGI Sport #66) came away with 2nd overall for the event with a win in Race 2. Nathan now leads the series with three rounds to go. Nick Filipetto (AGI Sport #77) showed an impressive turn of speed with the second fastest race lap of the day and two 3rd place finishes, a brilliant result for his first outing in the Excel Championship.

Glenn Smith (AGI Sport #44) finished a strong 5th in Race 1 but a collision with another competitor in Race 2 saw an unfortunate early exit into the sand trap.

Matt Peters (AGI Sport #55) showed great improvement in only his second car race with an 8th in Race 2 but struggled with an engine problem in the later stages of the event. In the final race of the day Matt had slid off into the sand trap and unbuckled his harness only to be t-boned by another competitor which resulted in serious damage to his car. Matt was shaken but luckily unhurt.
